Book Review: Front & Center (book 2 from The Back-up trilogy) by A.M. Madden

Reviewed by: Karen Lee

The second book in The Back-up trilogy from A.M. Madden, Front & Center, picks up where The Back-up left off. The band, Devil’s Lair, is about to go on tour and professionally, their lives have never been better. The book takes us on tour with Devil’s Lair, telling us how each band member deals with the separation from loved ones, and the unfortunate price of fame, the loss of anonymity. The venues get larger, the crowds get bigger and the music is the best it has ever been. Jack and Leila are enjoying their new relationship, which still hasn’t gone public, exploring their feelings for each other with RED HOT sex! The tedium of riding the bus to different venues on the tour, with all the guys and Leila is described, and not very glamorous. TOO MUCH TOGETHERNESS! Just like any family who has ever gone on a road trip, the banter and practical jokes help to pass the time. The band is clearly envious that Jack gets to have HIS girlfriend on tour with him, passing the time in the small bedroom at the back of the bus.  There are some laugh out loud moments, and heart wrenching times where tears, happy and sad will have you reeling. Through it all, Jack has become a contender for the sexiest and most romantic BBF to date. Jack has evolved in this book, the reader gets to see his devotion to his music but most importantly, to the love of his life, Leila. He will do anything to make her happy. Leila’s love for Jack is tested over and over; and she also shows devotion that knows no bounds. This was a great book, really loved it and while there are a few loose ends, surprise, NO CLIFFHANGER! What a welcome change! A.M. Madden does not need to worry if the readers will buy the last installment; we all want more Jack Lair and cannot wait to get it.
