Vanessa Knox is the next hot starlet on the country music scene. Embarking on her first solo tour, she is both excited and nervous to be taking this monumental step in her professional life. Too bad she has to deal with her super-hot bassist, Jason and his attitude for the entire trip. He does nothing but make snide remarks and calls her Princess which is the total opposite of how she really is. She refuses to let him get to her, and kind of enjoys the back and forth bickering they share on and off stage.
Jason has just come off a tour, and now the record company he works for has him on another tour with this uppity princess. He enjoys being on tour and really likes the fringe benefits of being on tour with a band but this girl just rubs him the wrong way. So for sport, he tries to make her life miserable, but she takes it as good as she gives it. What is it about this girl that is so infuriating?
Remember in school, when boys picked on you and teased you it was because they really liked you but didn’t know how to vocalize it? Well that is Jason and Vanessa. He is brutal with what he says and does to her but she just lets what he says roll right off her back. She knows all too well how short life really can be and sometimes just being there for someone makes all the difference in the world.
This is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Great story, but how Vanessa puts up with some of the cruel things he says to her is beyond me. I know people live what they learn at home, but his way of pushing people away, to hurt them before they hurt you, has you crying for poor Vanessa. There are a few tears in this story but it does have a HEA, my favorite. Enjoyable, fast read 4.5 stars.
