Review: A Little Faith by Emma James

A Little Faith (Ocean Beach book 1)
By Emma James
Reviewed By Karen Lee

Faith had hung around her older brother, Chance and his friends, for as long as she could remember. They never seemed to mind the little girl who idolized her brother following them places; in fact they were very cool with it. When Faith was 11 years old and her brother Chance went off to college, it was hard, but even if her brother wasn’t home, his friends would return home on break and stop in to see her. She always felt close to them.
When a tragedy strikes while the guys are on vacation, Faith at 15 years old closes herself off from friends and even her parents. The grief of losing her brother too painful to deal with, she couldn’t even visit with his friends, it was just too painful. Her brother had spoken in the past about his wish to be cremated and his remains brought to San Diego. He loved to surf while spending time with his friends and he wanted his ashes to be released into the waves. But the thought of losing another part of her brother was too painful for Faith, so her parents decided they would wait until Faith was stronger and ready to finally let Chance go.
It was 6 years after the death of her brother that Faith felt strong enough to grant Chance’s final wish. She made arrangements to stay with his best friend, who was more than happy to visit with the girl he had always referred to as short stuff. For six years Faith had closed herself off from Chance’s friends, and soon after her arrival, she realizes his 5 friends are still struggling with the past. They paint smiles on their faces, joking around with everyone but occasionally some of the horror of that night surfaces. Faith is ashamed for not being there for these amazing men, for not helping them with the pain and the survivor’s guilt they have. The guilt they have that their friend is no longer here with them. Faith is determined to help each of them emotionally recover, to go on and lead happy lives. To find someone they love, like they deserve to be loved, to just be happy. This is what her brother would really want her to do for them, and she has made it her mission to accomplish this, for Chance.

OMG, what a fantastic read! Such an original idea, and great story, that pulls you in and makes you read the whole book in one night! Outstanding descriptions of the guys and I loved them all, especially Text. This is an incredible debut book from a very talented lady.     5 stars

Saying Claire has not had the best childhood is an understatement. Her mother was a drug addicted, stripper who only kept her daughter around as leverage to get money from her uncle, Phillip. So when her mother ended up dead, Claire moved in with her uncle and his girlfriend, now fiancé Reese and they became her parents. Although she pushed them away with her actions and words, they always came back, fought back to show her they would not leave her and would love her unconditionally. For the first time in her life, someone loved her, expecting nothing in return and she loved them back. Claire is now a sophomore in college and dreams of having a career as a choreographer. Having already won several awards, she is working hard and studying relentlessly to make this dream come true.

Jude Sinclair has hockey in his blood. As soon as he and his brothers were able to skate, they were playing hockey and college is the next step to the ultimate goal. THE NHL. Now everyone has that dream, that someday they will go pro, but Jude has the talent to achieve just that, and will probably be doing so at the end of this academic school year. It will just be a matter of which city he ends up in to play and live out his dream.

When Claire encounters the self-confident captain of the hockey team, Jude Sinclair, she is more than just leery of his interest in her. His reputation is well known and he has trouble written all over him. However the attraction is undeniable. His cocky attitude and persistence to talk to her is endearing and she relents and goes on a date with him, and then another. The chemistry they have is undeniable, but is the heat sustainable? Will it burn out and what they are experiencing, is it just lust or really love. Only time will help them figure it out, if she is truly his game changer and he is someone she can trust to love her, unconditionally.

OMG, I F’loved this book. This is the first book I have read about the Nashville Assassins, but it won’t be my last. That being said, I believe some of the characters are in other books but this can definitely be read as a standalone. I loved Jude and his cocky attitude, Claire and her snarky quips , and the love Reese and Phillip showed Claire. This review could be pages long, yeah it is that good,  that I could go on and on about it.  There are smiles and tears and everything in between and when Phillip and Jude finally meet on the ice that was by far, my favorite scene. I will smile every time I hear the song Rude. Great job, again Toni Aleo, worthy of the Stanley Cup ;)!         *****5 stars*****

Review: The Spice of Life by Jake Furie Lapin

Review by Helen Cameron

Five stars

I would like to say congrats to Jake Furie Lapin on his First Book.

I was captivated from the first page and could not put it down. As a blogger I read a lot and this first book I really enjoyed and cannot wait for more the ending came to soon for my liking and need so much more.

I could relate to Kelli as a character stuck in a marriage going nowhere she decides to try a online dating site and agrees to meet up with Jake who is hot and dominate. The sex scenes are scorching hot and I liked the scenario of him talking his way through his life to Kelli who is a sex therapist and them finding out about each other as the story progresses.

In my opinion this is a five star read you won't be disappointed.

Book Review: Her Journey by Rachael Orman

Reviewed by Karen Lee

Melia has decided to do a generous act. When her mother was going through chemotherapy, and then later when she succumbed to the horrible disease, only two people were there for her. Ryan, who was also going through her own hell with the disease and treatments and her boyfriend, Dirty. Dirty, what a name. His real name is Ellis, and he is not what you would expect from a member of a motorcycle club. He is kind and so sweet, just like the love of his life, Ryan. They helped her mother deal with the disease while she and Ryan had their treatments together. How could you not form a bond with someone when you both have poison dripping into your veins that can save your life but at the same time makes you feel like you are dying? As a result of the treatments and surgery, Ryan cannot carry a child.  So Melia offers to carry a baby for Ryan and Dirty if In-Vitro works. After two rounds Melia is pregnant with Dirty and Ryan’s babies, ah yeah, twins.
Melia decides to leave DC, to move across country so Ryan can help Melia with her pregnancy. Melia is a photographer and she can take pictures anywhere, and can probably pick up clients for weddings in any part of the world.   Melia is soon introduced to the other members of the MC, including Ryan’s brother Patrick, aka Wrench. He is a gruff, foul mouthed, egotistical man who is only looking for his next woman so he can have a sexual release. He is also the jerk that literally knocked her off her feet a few days before.  When issues with her pregnancy arrive and she is put on bed rest, she has no choice but to move in with Ryan and Ellis. Unfortunately, that also means Wrench, as they all live at his very large house, that serves as the MC as well. Now Melia gets to see a lot more of Wrench and her attraction for this man grows. How can she be attracted to a man she loathes? Now, Patrick is also beginning to have feelings for Melia, and his belief that one night will get her out of his system has been proven false.  Is a future with him really possible Melia wonders? Can he really trust someone with his heart, Patrick asks himself? What happens when someone else discovers how important Melia is to Wrench?
This is part of a series, and although I didn’t read the first book, it was easy to follow. Great characters and my heart ached for Melia after the babies were born. Good story, 4 stars.

Michelle Mott knows she has a dangerous job and this time her snooping around might just get her killed. She has been beat up and stabbed in the past, yet her persistence to dig and find answers for her clients, is an indescribable high. She is definitely an adrenaline junkie.

The only major change in his life recently is that his young fiancée was killed in a car crash several months ago. About a month after the accident, the checks started arriving. Michelle is convinced it is probably an insurance policy, but when she finds out the checks are from a corporation with government ties, she isn’t so sure. The more she digs, the more danger she finds herself in and that is just how she likes it!

This is a romance-detective kind of story. The author did a great job with the details and made the reader feel a connection to Michelle. A feel good kind of adventure with a HEA ending, yay! 4.5 stars!!
