Cover

~Synopsis~
This is a stand-alone novel and does not need to be read in order.
Josie Decker has spent her whole life as an unloved and unwanted bother. Like a wild horse captured and bridled, Josie’s spirit is broken. She devises a plan to start her life anew; silently biding her time, she waits for the perfect moment. When that moment arises, Josie takes the opportunity and runs freely into an uncertain future in Torey Hope.
Kyle Martin is a tattooed, pierced, bad boy with a heart of gold. Marching to the beat of his own drummer, Kyle meets his perfect match early on in life. Devastating circumstances beyond his control plunge Kyle into dark despair and suffocating blackness. In an effort to escape the blackness, Kyle accepts an offer from an old friend and moves to Torey Hope.
Josie and Kyle hit it off as close friends and kindred spirits right away. Both are harboring secrets and sadness, but the connection between them is bringing light back to their smiles, their hearts, their lives. Kyle and Josie cling to each other as they battle guilt and crushed spirits. Through it all, with a lot of help from an unexpected accomplice, Kyle and Josie come to view each other in a new light.
When the past catches up to them and causes their lives to come crashing down, will Kyle and Josie get the chance to see where their future is headed? Or will they be forced to admit they waited too long to embrace what was right in front of them the whole time?
A heart-wrenching and heart-warming love story of cherishing the past while embracing the future.

Review:

Loving Josie
By A.D. Ellis
Reviewed by Karen Lee
Josie has had a rough life. She has never felt loved by her parents and even her marriage was about social standing, not love. In fact, her parents love her husband more than they love her and they will tell you that. He is not nearly as disappointing as she is in the business world. However, Josie realizes many people have a life worse than she does and as long as she has her painting and scrapbooking, she is content. When a violent interaction with her husband takes away the only joy she has, she plans her escape to Torey Hope to find an uncle she didn’t know even existed until recently.
Kyle and Izzy have loved each other since the second grade. After graduating high school, they married and waited a couple of years to start their family. After several years of trying to have a baby, they were tired of the appointments and the stress each month would bring. On the way to the doctor’s appointment for the latest appointment, Izzy is killed in a car accident and fate’s cruel twist is that she was pregnant and the baby also dies. Kyle’s best friend comes in to town to help him recover and offers for him to come live with his family for a fresh start in the town Torey Hope.
The new strangers are introduced by mutual friends and quickly become friends. Both have experienced pain and heartbreak and are guarded with their pasts. This common thread unites them and a great friendship is formed. But when a voice from the past tries to guide them into the future they deserve, another obstacle is thrown into their path. Can they overcome and move on from their pasts to have the future they both deserve?
I loved this book. Kyle is sweet and the writing shows the anguish of choosing between his past and present. Josie was so timid and broken in the beginning of the story, but really comes into her own by the end. 4.5 stars
